This is a shoutout about who he is
I served with Robert Ocampo. And I’m not writing this because he posts about Pokémon cards. I’m writing this because he’s a straight-up good man — wholesome, principled, and consistent.
When I say “good,” I don’t mean “nice when it’s convenient.” I mean the kind of moral character you notice in the military: does the right thing when nobody’s watching, treats people with respect, and handles responsibility without ego. In a word: Humble.
If you’ve served, you know what this means:
Some people wear integrity like a costume. Robert wears it like skin.
Why character matters in the Pokémon TCG world
The Pokémon TCG space is fun — but it’s also full of temptation: quick flips, vague grading language, sketchy deals, and people who talk big until something goes wrong.
That’s why I’m careful with who I recommend. When money, nostalgia, and scarcity collide, trust becomes the real product. Robert is someone I trust — not because he’s “a creator,” but because he’s the kind of person who keeps his standards even when it would be easier not to.
-
Professional — communicates clearly, handles things cleanly, doesn’t play games.
-
Compassionate — treats people like people, not like a transaction.
-
Sharp — extremely intelligent, pays attention, learns fast, stays disciplined.
-
Steady morals — the rare “good heart + good judgment” combo.
My collector story (and why I care about trustworthy people)
My personal Pokémon experience is mostly collecting, and I learned early how easy it is to lose something valuable when people don’t understand what they’re holding.
My first card was a holo 1st edition Charizard. I traded it for 200+ cards (honestly probably a bad trade), including a holo 1st edition Blastoise. Then I left for the military… and while I was away, my parents didn’t know their worth and sold them at a garage sale for basically dollars. But of course, who could blame them?
That’s the lesson:
Value gets destroyed fast when trust and knowledge aren’t there. That’s why I respect people who operate with integrity and take care of others in the hobby.
If you buy or sell cards, start here
If you’re going to spend your money (or sell parts of your collection), don’t gamble on random accounts. Follow people who are consistent, grounded, and decent — and who have a reputation worth protecting.
Bottom line: Robert Ocampo is the kind of person you want more of in this hobby. If you’re going to support someone in the Pokémon TCG space, support someone with real character.
